Sports programming now accounts for more than one-third of all broadcast ad revenue, but for Fox last Sunday, contributions from the NFL and Major League Baseball made up more than three-quarters of the overall sales pie.
Three NFL windows and the fifth and deciding frame of the 2015 World Series helped Fox generate more than $100 million in ad sales in a 16-hour span, making it the network’s most lucrative non-NFC Championship/Super Bowl broadcasting day. The sales figure was confirmed Wednesday by 21st Century Fox CEO James Murdoch, who mentioned it in passing during the media conglomerate’s first quarter earnings call.
“The other day, I think it was just last Sunday, we had a really tremendous day of sports,” Mr. Murdoch said. “And all-in, it was a $100 million day. So that felt that’s pretty good.”

The magazine industry, which has been increasingly emphasizing its digital reach, is making a new play to backstop advertising in its print editions, forging an “industry-wide” guarantee that ad pages will achieve sales results for marketers. If those results don’t materialize, qualifying marketers will be made whole with free ad space or refunds.
The program, called the Print Magazine Sales Guarantee, was developed by the medium’s chief trade group, MPA — The Association of Magazine Media. Its members include Time Inc., Conde Nast, Meredith Corp., Hearst Magazines and many others.
The association declined to identify which publishers are part of the program, however, saying only that they reach 75% of magazine readers. A Time Inc. spokeswoman and a Conde Nast spokesman said their companies are participating. Representatives at other publishers did not immediately respond to inquiries.

McDonald’s has teamed up with a number of other companies for a collaborative International Peace Day effort, including rival Burger King, which began a public push for action with its McWhopper idea.
