The first NYC Pride March was held in 1970 to commemorate the Stonewall riots. The uprising is considered by many to be one of the most significant events in the history of LGBT rights

The march originated as a civil-rights demonstration, but has since evolved to include recognition of the fights against AIDS and to memorialize those who died from the illness.

Late-Night Is a Bright Spot in TV Upfronts

Category : General · No Comments Jun 27th, 2014

Late-night was a bright spot in this summer’s otherwise lackluster broadcast upfront market, where ad buyers struck deals for commercial time in the upcoming TV season.

For many years an afterthought during the prime-time-centric upfronts, the new regime in late-night hosts has lately heated demand from advertisers.

“Usually in negotiations the conversation is around prime and then all the other dayparts lumped together, but late-night was a bigger part of the conversations,” one media buyer said.

'Sound of Honda' Snags Titanium Prize, Harvey Nichols' Cheap Gifts Campaign Wins Integrated

Category : General · No Comments Jun 21st, 2014

An emotional data-driven experience, “Sound of Honda — Ayrton Senna 1989,” and Harvey Nichols’ cheeky multi-awarded “Sorry, I Spent It on Myself” campaign earned the Grand Prix in the titanium and integrated categories, respectively, during the 2014 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.

What they are: The “Sound of Honda” was created out of Dentsu Tokyo and recreated racecar driver Ayrton Senna’s 1989 record-setting lap during the Japanese F1 circuit in Suzuka in a mesmerizing sound and light-filled installation. The installation was built using real data recorded with the brand’s “Internavi” telemetry navigation system, first launched more than 20 years ago in Honda vehicles. The data was translated into racecar sounds that were then combined with lights and a real racetrack to simulate Mr. Senna’s original drive.

Harvey Nichols’ “Sorry, I Spent it on Myself,” created out of Adam & Eve DDB, has been the unexpected favorite of this year’s show, also earning the top prizes in Promo/Activation, Press and Film. The effort cheekily embraced consumer selfishness and included print ads, a TV spot and a quirky line of cheap branded gifts — from paper clips to bags of gravel — sold at the store itself. The idea was that by buying cheap gifts for everyone else, shoppers would have funds to purchase more expensive gifts for themselves, presumably, at Harvey Nichols.

No Top Prize for Pharma at First Cannes Health Festival

Category : General · No Comments Jun 14th, 2014

Dentsu won the top prize in the health and wellness category, the Grand Prix, for its “Mother Book” at the first Cannes Lions Health festival, the new two-day show preceding the main Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity. Nobody took home a Grand Prix in pharma, the other category at Lions Health.

“We made a determined effort at the beginning not to award because it was good or OK,” said Jeremy Perrott, pharma jury president and global creative director for McCann Health. “That’s the reason there’s no grand prix in pharma. We don’t believe we’re quite there yet.”

On its 15th anniversary, it’d be easy to look back on Napster with the same fondness and nostalgic affection we typically reserve for Saved by the Bell, or the Motorola Razr. But that would be dishonest.

The Napster era (1999 to 2001) was a time of great risk in our lives. We Millennials did things for free music that would horrify our future selves to tears.

Don’t act like you don’t remember — these were everyday experiences, common as parodies of “Whassup?” Budweiser …read more

New Fortune and Money Websites Go to War With Old Partner CNNMoney

Category : General · No Comments Jun 1st, 2014

Fortune and Money magazines will each roll out their own websites Sunday, ending a long partnership with CNNMoney.com under which their digital content had been subsumed under the larger site.

The collaboration is coming to an end because the magazines’ and CNN’s family is splitting up: Time Warner is spinning off Time Inc., which owns Fortune and Money, while holding onto entertainment and TV properties such as CNN. Time Inc. begins trading on the New York Stock Exchange as its own public company in less than a week.

The break-up means longtime allies are going to war for readers and advertisers, and they already sound much more like competitors than old friends.
