Vice Media confirmed Friday that it is in talks to sell a 10% stake to A&E Networks for $250 million.
The deal, which would value Vice at roughly $2.5 billion, is expected to close soon and comes the same day as reports saying Time Warner ended discussions to buy its own stake in the media company. That deal would have valued Vice at roughly $2 billion.
Nancy Dubuc, president and CEO of A&E Networks, helped orchestrate the agreement, according to a person familiar with the matter. A spokesman for A&E declined to comment.

Consumers will begin spotting Coca-Cola Life, which features a distinctive green label, on U.S. store shelves the week of Aug. 25, Coca-Cola said.
The reduced-calorie cola, sweetened with cane sugar and stevia, has already rolled out in Argentina, Chile and Great Britain. In the United States, it will initially be available in Fresh Market locations across Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and parts of Florida. Life will be available nationwide by October, the company said.
Coke plans to do heavy sampling of the new product, with more than 4,000 sampling events planned across the country. Life will also be promoted on Coca-Cola’s digital network of electronic billboards. A Coca-Cola spokeswoman declined to share further details about the brand’s marketing plans or any agency relationships.

Taco Bell is trying to hold onto its perception as the destination for the cheap fast food by taking its $1 Cravings Menu national.
The company began testing the dollar menu last year when it was trying to find a way to replace its then-current value menu called “Why Pay More.” That menu included items originally priced at 79 cents, 89 cents and 99 cents, though those prices increased to well north of a dollar over time. (A spokeswoman for the company said a few of those items will appear on the $1 Cravings menu.) There were also $2 meal deals on the “Why Pay More” menu, and last year the company said those meals would likely “evolve.”
The national menu, which launches Aug. 18, will include 11 items, including Beefy Fritos Burrito, Beefy Mini Quesadilla, Spicy Potato Soft Taco and a Caramel Apple Empanada. Marketing for the menu will launch Aug. 21 and will be led by Interpublic’s Deutsch, its lead creative agency.

From the broad view it looks like more of the same — a good show having a home on the internet — but to me this will cause a new surge of changes. It’s significant in my eyes since: It was a show on broadcast TV, so those viewers who stick with it will have more practice with the training wheels to look online. It’s a great show that, if made better, could make the medium that gave it up look weaker in the eyes of viewers or creators. And its web home doesn’t require a subscription like Netflix/Amazon.”

GrassIsNotGreener.com, an affiliate of the nonprofit organization Project SAM, or Smart Approaches to Marijuana, ran an ad in Saturday’s Times calling attention to the dangers of legalizing marijuana.
“The legalization of marijuana means ushering in an entirely new group of corporations whose primary source of revenue is a highly habit-forming product,” according to the ad that drives people to GrassIsNotGreener.com, where the marijuana industry is compared to Big Tobacco.

Now, the message for some is shifting to what a good job Brazil did hosting the World Cup.
Banco Itau, a major World Cup sponsor, waited a day for the shock and agony to subside a bit, and tweeted “The pain is huge, but the pride in being Brazilian is bigger.
